I completely agree with you. There are a few points there since no customer project involvement will make it fail and no post deployment ownership will make it fail as well. 

But I think one of the major problems is that customers think IDM technologies are just a piece of infrastructure that can be maintained like the traditional AD, Exch, File server types. If customers thought of IDM systems like a combination of BizTalk, SAP, Sharepoint and custom development they might see that it requires a different approach to management, monitoring and enhancement.

In the end the task falls to us to scope our projects better, educate our customers more and drive the engagements to success through better planning and better offerings.</description>

I wanted to add an extra point of my own - and that&#039;s handing the whole project over to consultants or providers without sufficient internal staff involvment. I&#039;ve seen two major projects fail for that reason. An IdM project needs all sorts of local knowledge, plus any medium sized and above system is going to need ongoing monitoring and tweaking. Internal staff need to be involved through every part of the planning, build, depolyment and data troubleshooting.</description>
